Creating a Thin Place
What is it? "Thin Places" is a term coined by the Celtic saints during 400-650 AD who created spaced dedicated to God through worship and prayer. They said that "the atmosphere between heaven and earth was thin" in these places, and they built communities around them. A modern day Thin Place is a time/location dedicated to God's Presence where we cultivate worship, prayer, and the arts in devotion to Him.
Why the name? The Potter's House is the name of our thin place. In the Old Testament, God told Jeremiah to go down to the potter's house and hear the word of the Lord. Through the visual depiction of transformation of clay, God began to speak to the prophet. We also believe God uses art and visuals to release prophetic messages. (Rebecca Friedlander has spent 17 years traveling and speaking with her potter's wheel about God's intimate process of transformation, and she sometimes uses this tool while speaking at TPH.)
When: Currently, our worship/art night is the 3rd Saturday of the month, 6:30pm, and this is open to the community. Worship leaders gather to lead together, and we have an art table where people draw or write their prayers and revelation from the Lord. We also have a 12-week prophetic school that is currently in session.
Where: Elijah Mountain Ministries, 6763 El Cajon Blvd, San Diego, CA 92115. Parking on street or at Bank of America.
What's the big picture? We're hoping to have our own building for an art studio/gallery and prophetic ministry! This would allow us to have more worship and prayer sets during the week and art lessons for both the church and community. Leader Rebecca Friedlander is a skilled potter, award winning photographer and graphic designer with a prophetic edge. We often have 5 or 6 worship leaders leading worship together at once from various churches, so a building of our own would allow us to create "neutral ground" for the worship collective to spread its wings and bless in the community in even greater ways.
How can I be involved? Come to our worship/art night and delve into the interactive experience! Let us know if you'd like to be a part of a worship or art team-- we always have things to do! Join our email list (below) for upcoming opportunities. If you believe in this vision, you can also sow financially and help us move forward (see below).
